Indy Trip

My Time in Indianapolis
The week prior to the Washington 500, I was out of town which included enjoying a stint at Indy.

Here’s what went down:

Bright and early on Thursday morning, I began my day with Mike & Pete.
Mike and Pete host the NASCAR talk show, “The Morning Drive” on Sirius radio. Several women, invited to Lyn St. James’ 7th Annual Women in the Winner’s Circle, were asked for an interview. It was an adventure to say the least!
We were told to meet at the Super Klean trailer. How difficult could that be? Well, after asking just about every security guard I could find, I ran out of luck! I did manage to get a hold of all the other women involved, and we set out on foot to find where we needed to be. We met up with the guys just in time for our interview!
The interview with Mike and Pete was great! Tiffany, Katie and I went first followed by Megan and Mackena. After the interview, it was back to the hotel for a quick change, and then off to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the Women in the Winner’s Circle Luncheon.

Women In Winner Circle Luncheon
Lyn St. James established the 501(c)(3) organization, Women in the Winner's Circle Foundation in 1994. As stated in her website, the foundation focuses on worldwide activities and programs for driver development, advocacy, diversity and education, particularly for women who aspire to become race car drivers. The Foundation is dedicated to making a difference and reaching the point in time when “opportunity” and "diversity” are no longer concerns – they are taken for granted.
This is the second year that I have been invited to attend the luncheon. Lyn St. James and her very dedicated team put on an amazing program. I feel very fortunate to be a part of such a great group of people. This year, I met a lot of new friends and got to catch up with a few familiar faces from last time. I really appreciate the opportunity to network with so many prestigious business people who are involved in a sport I am passionate about and give so much to the racing community.

Jeff Gordon Celebrity Bowling Tournament
This prominent event is in its eighth year. I was so excited to be invited to attend. The Drive for Diversity program entered a team and we all gathered at the Western Bowl in Indianapolis. Our team consisted of Tiffany Daniels (Marcus was her sub due to her knee injury), Megan Reitenour, Phil Dugan, myself and a "Celebrity" teammate. Each team bowled three games – every time with a different celebrity – and received a team photo with Jeff Gordon! A couple of our celebrity teammates included: Larry Mc
Rennolds, and Captain Andy (Time Bandit’s captain) from the Deadliest Catch!
Bowling in the lane next to us, the Dupont Team shows up and right away it was game on! Don (Team Dupont) and I had a wager. Highest score had to buy a pin. The pin cost $25 which went to help the kids at Riley Hospital for Children. If you picked a pin with a green bottom you got to choose a big pin for a prize. Well, after my worst game of bowling ever, I am sad to say I lost...
So, Don bought the pin, but he kindly let me pick it out. The bottom was GREEN! We won!
This led to picking out another big pin and the prize was a one night stay at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Downtown Indy! Since Don is from Indy, he extended that warm hometown Indiana spirit and gave me the prize. I was feeling pretty lucky.
Round 2 of bowling wasn't very impressive though, so in Round 3 our team really needed to step it up! The goal in Round 3 was to be the team that bowled a total score closest to 179 after
a 10 frame game where we each bowled twice. With a final score of 162, we tied with another team for the win!! WOO HOO!
We got an authentic autographed bowling pin from Jeff Gordon! And, the event generated $250,000 for the critical, lifesaving pediatric research being conducted jointly between Riley Hospital and Indiana University.
Way to go, team!
Jeff Gordon’s people did a wonderful job conducting this event. It was fantastic to see how many other drivers, announcers, and volunteers gave of their time for such a good cause. I truly feel blessed to have been asked to participate.
